Sri Lanka builds special Economic Centers to provide food at lower prices

Sri Lanka Trade Ministry has decided to launch a network of special Economic Centers in Colombo suburbs as a proactive measure to the looming food crisis in the country.

The Ministry commenced the building of the first Economic Center today at the Government’s Food Stores premises in Narahenpita.

Participating in the occasion, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that the Center would only give space for the producers or those who collect food products directly from the producers. He further said, through this measure, the consumers in the urban areas would be able to buy food products at the lowest possible prices in the market.
