posted by Editor at 10:38 PMJaliya Wickramasuriya is due to take over as Sri Lanka’s US Ambassador by the 1st of July. He was the former Consul General for Los Angeles.
He hails from the south of Sri Lanka and was a very successful businessman. He was earlier the Managing Director and CEO of the Ceylon Royal Tea and Supplies LLC, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Furthermore, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appointed two more ambassadors.
Tamara Kunananyakm, who is at present the Charge de Affairs in the Sri Lanka Embassy in Brazil has bee appointed as Ambassador for Cuba. She is said to be a political appointee and a specialist in Spanish language.
Also Ranjani Samarakoon, another political appointee has been appointed as High Commissioner to Singapore.
In the meantime, Sri Lanka’s veteran diplomat Bernard Goonatilake is leaving Washington to Colombo on 29 of this month. It is till not clear whether he will be given another diplomatic assignment to an Asian country.
Bernard Goonatilake was the one who organized the Sri Lanka Peace Secretariat in 2002. He was also the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry sources revealed that Shenuka Senivaratne, the former High Commissioner to London has assumed duties as Director, Political Affairs (Europe) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ in Colombo.
