UNP welcomes Ranjan’s offer to be Sab. CM candidate

The UNP yesterday welcomed leading film actor Ranjan Ramanayake’s offer to be the party’s chief ministerial candidate at the forthcoming Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Election, but said that it was a matter for the decision making bodies.
UNP General Secretary, Tissa Attanyake said ’ that there are about twelve persons including Ramanayake who have volunteered to be chief ministerial candidates at the Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provincial Council Elections."But it is upto to the Nomination Board and the Working Committee to select and ratify the names of the most suitable aspirants."

He said that more than 150 have sought nomination as candidates at both elections and they are having a tough time selecting the most suitable aspirants."It’s nice to see so many clamouring to contest on the UNP ticket."

Asked if former Major General Janaka Perera has been confirmed as the partys Chief Ministerial candidate for the North Central Province, Attanayake said that the names of all candidates will be known by July 1.
