Yapa claims dissenting UNP MP’s will join government
posted by Editor at 10:09 PMMedia Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa yesterday claimed that a group of senior dissenting UNP parliamentarians would join the government shortly.
He told yesterday’s Cabinet press briefing at the Information Department that the UNP was facing a serious internal crisis with many members rebelling against the leadership.
Declining to mention the numbers who would cross over, Yapa said "I will reveal further details at the right moment. I am saying this with responsibility."
The UNP is making all sorts of contradictory statements and has still not been able to select its chief ministerial candidates for the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Elections, he said.
"But we have already named Berty Premalal Dissanayake and Mahipala Herath as our chief ministerial candidates for the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils."
