7 items removed from duty-free list

The Customs have removed seven goods from a list of duty-free items that are available at the Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake for returnees from overseas employment and foreigners.

The measure will become effective from August 01st.

The removed items include air conditioners, refrigerators with more than 500 litre capacity, dishwashers and deep freezers.

Cookers with four burners and oven, fully automatic washing machines, CRT televisions of more than 29 inches and LCD televisions of more than 32 inches are also in the list.

According to Director General of Customs Sarath Gunatilake, the measure has been taken to reduce energy consumption.
