Anura Kumara sues Dinamina Editor for defamation
posted by Editor at 10:08 PMJVP parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake has filed action for defamation in the District Court, Colombo against the editor of the state-run Sinhala daily newspaper ‘Dinamina’ claiming Rs. 10 million as damages.
In his plaint, Anura Kumara Dissanayake cited Dinamina Editor, Mahinda Abeysundara and the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) as defendants. According to the plaint an article published on April 2, 2008 on the front page of the newspaper has caused damage to his goodwill and reputation.
Mr. Dissanayake, a member of the Central Committee and the Politburo of JVP, complained the article written under the authority of Dinamina Editor, Mahinda Abeysundara, was published maliciously, with the intention of causing disrepute to him and to his political career.
The JVP MP stated the article had caused him great pain of mind and estimated the damage caused to him at Rs. 10 million.
