Bandula Gunawardena rules out milk food price increase this year

Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardena has ruled out an increase of milk food prices during this year.

He said that milk food companies have asked for permission to increase a 400 gram milk packet by Rs. 25.

"I will never allow that to happen. We have been maintaining milk food prices at a stable price for the past nine months", he said.

Three months back when the companies sought permission to increase milk food prices, the government held discussions with the companies and it was agreed that prices will not be increased for three months. The period lapses on July 31.
