BTT increase is another additional burden on people -WPC Opposition (UNP) moves to disallow this raise

Following a decision taken at the UNP Western Provincial Concillors group meeting yesterday, (4 Jul) the main opposition Party is to strongly oppose the move to increase the Business turnover tax (BTT) from 1% to 5% by a Gazette notification of June 11th.
The UNP is to raise this as a question of privilege at the next Council session on July 8th. This tax hike will be an additional burden on the people who are already reeling under the skyrocketing cost of living, for, the businessmen will conveniently pass this business tax burden to the people.
