Court orders report on journalist killing

Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate Harsha Setunga ordered the CID to obtain a report how the trishaw in which the assassinated journalist Sampath Lakmal said to have travelled with another army officer on the day of his assassination went out of fuel and how the fuel was obtained.

The Magistrate made this order sequel to an application made by Counsel Clinton Dabare, who watched the interest of the aggrieved party at the Magisterial inquiry yesterday.

The CID is probing into the killing of the journalist at Dehiwela on June 01, 2007 by an unidentified gunman.

The CID said they had recorded statements from 15 people including a Brigadier, a Lieutenant and a soldier and they were conducting further investigations based on the statement made by the soldier Warnakumara ,who had allegedly travelled with the victim in the trishaw on the day of the incident.The Magistrate ordered the CID to fully probe the incident and to report court on October 04.
