Court refuses application by CID Inspector to go abroad for an year

posted by Editor at

The Supreme Court yesterday refused an application by CID Inspector Mihidusiri Abeysinghe for time to go overseas for one year. He is the sixth respondent in the fundamental rights violation application filed by Tiran Alles against Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and a few other respondents.
Abeysinghe had said that he has been selected to go overseas on a peace keeping mission.

Alles, in his rights violation application, had challenged the decision of the State to freeze his bank accounts on a suspicion of having financial dealings with the LTTE.

Abeysinghe, in his motion filed in Court, said that the Police Department turned down his application seeking permission to go overseas. Hence, he sought relief from the Supreme Court.

Subsequent to hearing his motion, the Supreme Court said that he could not go overseas while being a respondent.

Romesh de Silva PC, appeared with Sugath Caldera, instructed by G. G. Arulpragasam for Alles.

The Bench comprised Justice Shirani Tilakawardene, Justice Saleem Marsoof, and Justice K. Sripavan.
