Don’t allow Govt. to win elections in the way it won in the EP by tricks and violence -Ranil

This Government is trying to win the Sabaragamuwa and North Central province elections too in the manner in which it won the Eastern Provincial Council elections - by thuggery; intimidation and obstruction of voters; vote rigging; ballot stuffing and violence, said Leader of Opposition and UNP Ranil Wickremesinghe at a meeting convened at the UNP office at Polonnaruwa.
It has become the cruel practice of this government to hold up all its unending imposition of hardships on people until after elections, and then continue the regular and rapid tax, tariff and price hikes. Therefore, it is the people who can teach this government a lesson. So, do not give in to government pressures using hooligans, violence and intimidation.

Wickremesinghe called upon all not to allow the He urged everyone not to be misled by the government’s tricks and treacheries this time. People need not be reminded as to how this government wins elections, and how it runs the government., he added.

Now, the biggest problem facing the people is living and livelihood. Not only people have no peace, they also have no money, no food and their children have no proper education. Human rights violations have hit the peak level. Crimes, violence, abductions, lawlessness and corruption are rapidly increasing. These are the ‘achievements’ of this government for the people.

When the Media tries to expose the government’s wrongs and misdeeds, they are murdered, intimidated, assaulted or abducted. If the Workers demand wage hikes, they too are assaulted or intimidated. If people and Bhikkus demonstrate their protests against government atrocities, they are tear gassed, attacked and chased away using the Police or underworld state supporters. This is how the government is trying to solve the countries and people’s problems, he bemoaned.
