posted by Editor at

Ceylon Cold Stores, makers of the popular Elephant House range of ice creams today announced that all its ice creams are fully Halal certified. CCS thus becomes Sri Lanka’s only ice cream manufacturer to market Halal certified ice creams to the country’s Muslim community.

The Halal accreditation was received from the All Ceylon Jamithul Ulama (ACJU). The official accreditation for Halal foods in Sri Lanka, the ACJU is a non-political, non-governmental national religious institution in Sri Lanka exclusively for Muslim theologians. As part of the standard practice with ACJU’s inspection process, is the verification of the source of every single ingredient which goes into the ice cream making process. This includes even the detergents for washing utensils used and the floor.

Head of Frozen Confectionary, Ceylon Cold Stores Neil Samarasinghe said, “As a responsible corporate, we are proud to serve consumers of different nationalities and religions with equal service and at all times. It has been through such innovative and wide ranging products that Elephant House has touched the hearts of thousands of local consumers, by treating them to a unique taste experience that is truly of the highest quality standards. Plans are also underway to immediately introduce our entire Halal certified range to our growing customer base in the Maldives.”

Elephant House Ice Cream markets a unique brand of ice cream in terms of taste and flavour. The Halal certification has been given to the full range of Elephant House ice cream products ranging from 500 ml to 4 litre ice cream tubs of Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate, Fruit and Nut, Twist and the premium range of ice creams which include Karutha Kolumban, Jugger-Nut, Cookie Cream, Toffee Caramel and Coffee Grande. Added to this is also the entire Lite range of Ice creams, the impulse range that includes 80 ml tubs of the basic flavours with Fruit and Nut and Manga Batta, together with the Jumbo Jolly range with Wonder Cone, Wonder Bars etc.

“The success of Elephant House Ice creams has been that while meeting the highest international standards, it has effectively tapped into the local taste and flavour preferences, thus clearly differentiating it from its competitors”, Samarasinghe added.
