Forest fire in Knuckles Forest range in Sri Lanka
posted by Editor at 10:20 PMA forest fire broke out yesterday at Knuckles Forest Reserve in the hill country of Sri Lanka.
The fire which started at about 7pm yesterday due to dry weather in the forest range has already destroyed more than 30 acres and continues to spread due to high winds.
The Knuckles Forest range covers parts of Kandy and Matale districts, almost 1% of the land area in Sri Lanka and consists of almost one-third of the island’s flowering plant species.
