Government notorious for assaulting its ‘friends’ – Gayantha
posted by Editor at 11:47 PMThe Mahinda Rajapaksa government is notorious for assaulting those it claims are"friends and supporters",followed by hilarious and stupid excuses,UNP MP Gayantha Karunathillake said .
Addressing a news conference in Colombo,he said that a classic example was last weeks brutal police attack on a group of protesting Buddhist monks who were on their way to meet Rajapaksa at Temple Trees and hand over a petition demanding the reopening of the Bhikku Students University.
"President Rajapaksa claims to be a good Buddhist committed to protecting the Buddha Sasana, but when Buddhist monks engage in a peaceful protest,he unleashes the anti riot police on them and thereafter falsely claims not to have known about the incident."
Such hilarious explanations are given because,Rajapaksa thinks that the masses are fools to believe that he was not aware of the protest,Karunathillake said."But the people know that the anti riot police could not have been let loose without his knowledge. He is trying to hoodwink the masses after the brutal attack,by sermonising about the manner in which future protests by students and monks should be handled ."
The most disgraceful aspect,he said was the stony silence being maintained by the Jathika Hela Urumaya while their brothers are being humiliated and assaulted in public."Is it because President Rajapaksa has bought them over with various positions and perks?"
