Government of Sri Lanka plans conducts another discussion on CEPA

The government of Sri Lanka and its cabinet of ministers plan to conduct another discussion on Sri Lanka India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement [CEPA Agreement] which would be signed during the forth-coming SAARC Summit.
Media Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said the Cabinet has already discussed the CEPA agreement and the agreement would be strengthen trade between India and Sri Lanka. He said the Cabinet is yet to approve the proposed (CEPA) between the two countries.
Speaking at the Weekly Cabinet press briefing on Friday he said SAARC area is a biggest trade area in the Asian region.
Sri Lanka could expand their trade and help the local manufacturing sector.
However he charged a number of local and foreign NGOs and other pro-opposition allies try to spread rumors among foreign countries about Sri Lanka and said Sri Lanka is a failed state.
“I cannot accept these rumors and the government refutes it, he said.
He said at present Sri Lanka receives international donor support to conduct development process of the country.
“Sri Lanka is one of developing country which fight against the terrorism and also develop the country, he said.
“If we are in a failed state, we cannot obtain international aid, he said.
Addressing media he said bringing overseas security personnel to Sri Lanka for the security of visiting Indian Prime Minister during the SAARC summit would not underestimate Sri Lankan security forces.
The Sri Lankan government is in a fix after signing several pacts with India, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has claimed, alleging that Colombo is fulfilling its promises one by one.

Speaking to the media today, JVP's Anura Kumara Dissanayake charged that one of the accords was for the exploration of oil in the Mannar Basin to India.

An agreement was hurriedly inked and handed over to New Delhi, he said.

The second step in the government's submission is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, said the JVP MP.
