Janaka Perera returns security
posted by Editor at 2:23 AMUNP Chief Ministerial candidate for the North Central PC polls, retired Major General Janaka Perera says that he has returned the security contingent that was assigned to him.
The team consisting of four police personnel was sent back to the Ministerial Security Division as they were insufficient to tackle the threats he is facing, the CM candidate said.
He questioned whether a security contingent of four policemen armed with revolvers is sufficient when intelligence has warned him of grave threats from the LTTE.
Noting that he is well aware of security matters and that personnel armed with revolvers can only provide limited protection, the retired Major General said that an enhanced unit is required to protect him from claymore or long-range weapon attacks.
He claimed that former Chief Minister, Berty Premalal Dissanayake had been assigned a security contingent of 30 special forces personnel, 28 policemen and 12 Civil Defence Force personnel.
Major General Perera questioned why he is not allowed a similar security unit.
