Janaka to seek legal redress regarding security

posted by Editor at

The United National Party's chief ministerial candidate for the North Central Provincial Council Major General Janaka Perera plans to seek legal redress for government's failure to provide him official security.

He told The Island yesterday that his main rival Berty Premalal Dissanayake of the UPFA had been provided security by the Police, Army and Home Guards.

He had sought security from the IGP, DIG and the Elections Commissioner but to no avail. The UNP too sought security for Major General Perera but it failed to get any response even from the Government.

The Major General said that the Police had informed him that his life was at threats from the LTTE. "I have no other alternative but to seek legal redress", he said.

Meanwhile, on comments that UNP chief ministerial candidate for the Sabaragamuwa Province Ranjan Ramanayake is an outsider contesting in the province, Ramanayake said that he is not an outsider but a Sri Lankan. "I have every right to contest anywhere in Sri Lanka" he said.
