JNP to bring in new recruitment bill

posted by Editor at

The Jathika Nidahas Peramuna yesterday pledged to end the politicisation of the public service by brining in a new Bill titled “Recruiting Criteria for Public Service Bill” to Parliament soon.

JNP MP Piyasiri Wijenayake told a press conference held at the parliamentary complex yesterday that a stable recruitment process for the public sector would be introduced through this bill for the first time after independence. .

Mr. Wijenayake explained that people had been recruited with a view of fulfilling petty political objectives. Citing examples he said only supporters of the Power and Energy Minister had been recruited to the CEB during the tenure of any government while the grama niladharis were appointed according to the MP’s list.

“We thought of introducing this bill to end all these and introduce a stable recruitment process,” he said.

The JNP MP charged that the current government was requested by many to introduce a process but it would not heed those requests and this situation forced them to bring in this bill.

He said under the proposed bill an examination would be held to select the suitable persons while interviews would be held to determine whether a person had the relevant qualifications.
