JVP token strike unsuccessful -Reports
posted by Editor at 11:59 PMAccording to reports one day token strike launched by the JVP was unsuccessful .Our reporters say majority of the state workers are now in their respectable offices and still no major incidents related to the strike.However JVP MP Lal Kantha yesterday said JVP would be compelled to team up with ‘all anti-government forces’ if the Government ignored the general token strike on Thursday.
He said that the Government is compelling his party to join hands with anti-government forces by failing to address the workers’ problems.
A Drivers' Union treasurer had been stabbed and injured in Kandy today. In a separate incident black tar had been thrown on a Rambukkana train. No injuries were reported.The railway control room said all trains operated on schedule this morning despite the trade union strike.
According to our reporters government own buses are still operating successfully and the private sector also decided to run their buses without caring JVP's political pressure.
Two persons were arrested in Homagama and Horana areas due to the sabotage.In Horana a person was arraested who harased the normal transport activities.
Police said these is no major incident during morning hours , but they also keep on vigilance to end any type of sabotage.
Responding to media Parliamentarian K.D.Lalkantha said 60 percent of the state sector attended the token strike.
