Lal Kantha vows to resign as MP if strike failed
posted by Editor at 4:01 AMChairman of the National Trade Unions Centre, K.D. Lal Kantha, says that he will resign as an MP if tomorrow’s (July 10th) strike protest failed to obtain support from the transport sector.
Making a special statement to the House today, the JVP parliamentarian responded to a statement by Transport Minister, Dalles Alahapperuma, who challenged organizers to stop at least one bus if they could.
Speaking further, Mr. Lal Kantha alleged that the police had visited depots in Mulleriyawa, Udahamulla, Meethotamulla and Polonnaruwa last night and ordered their trade union leaders to report to the police this morning.
If tomorrow’s strike is suppressed using thugs, the NTUC will resort to a stronger trade union action to win workers’ rights from July 11th, he warned.
