LTTE took Rajiv Gandhi for ride but cannot do same to Rajapaksa Govt, says Minister De Silva
posted by Editor at 10:43 AMThe LTTE took (assassinated Indian Prime Minister) Rajiv Gandhi for a ride but the Mahinda Rajapksa Government will not be taken for a ride by a false declaration of a unilateral ceasefire by the Tigers, Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said this evening.
Speaking at a pre SAARC summit press briefing, the Minister made the comments when asked for a government reaction to the LTTE’s violations of its own unilaterally declared ceasefire by firing artillery into the Muhamalai Forward Defence Lines (FDL) s earlier today.
“The LTTE signed an agreement when Rajiv Gandhi as in power and then withdrew into the jungle and violated it. Another Ceasefire Agreement was signed with the UNP and they violated it more than 10,000 times but we will not be tricked into such situations again,” the Minister said.
He added that the Government has taken all measurers to ensure security of all delegates attending the SAARC summit and they could go about their work without any fear.
