OIC accused in rape further remanded

Kalutara Chief Magistrate, H. Anura Seneviratne yesterday (July 30th) directed to further remand an OIC of a police station until August 06th for allegedly sexual harassing a 14-year old girl.

HQI of the National Child Protection Authority, W.D.V. Wijesena presented a lengthy description of intimidatory phone calls by the main suspect, Harold Rex Janson, to witnesses in the case.

He said that a videoed statement from the girl has also been recorded.

He further said that the witnesses of the case could be threatened if the main suspect was released on bail, which was requested by lawyers of the main accused.

The second suspect, who is the victim’s boyfriend, was released on two sureties of Rs. 250,000 each, as he is to sit for the GC.E A/L examination this year.

He was, however, ordered to give a statement to the HQI of the National Child Protection Authority.

The Kalutara Chief Magistrate criticized the police media spokesman for making public statement regarding the case.
