President to reward for information on Namal’s assailants
posted by Editor at 4:11 AMPresident Mahinda Rajapaka is to offer a cash prize for information on those responsible for the assault on Acting Manager Advocacy of the Sri Lanka Press Institute, Namal Perera, said sources at Temple Trees.
Yesterday (July 02nd), the SLPI, together with the Newspaper Publishers Association, offered a reward of Rs. 5 million for similar information.
Noting that the government is committed to preserving media freedom, the President has said that the government too, wanted the assailants to be exposed.
The president has spoken about the existence of a force that acts in order to bring disrepute to the government, and that he would be unhesitant in taking action against those responsible.
The President has also condemned last week’s attack by police anti-riot squads on a peaceful protest demonstration by Buddhist monks.
