SAARC wants UN to expedite terrorism charter
posted by Editor at 12:39 PMSouth Asian leaders are to urge the UN to expedite the finalizing of a UN charter against terrorism, Foreign Secretary Dr.Palitha Kohona said today.
Foreign Secretaries of the eight countries of SAARC ended their two day discussions this evening and said terrorism is an issue that affects all the countries in the region and needs to be addressed at a regional level as well as an international level.
“The UN charter has been seven years in the making and needs to be expedited,” he said.
Dr.Kohona who now heads the standing committee of foreign secretaries also said that Sri Lanka has proposed the creation of a food bank which would enable food be to stock piled in SAARC member nations so as to be used when they were food scarcities in the region.
He added that the Secretaries had also almost finalized the guidelines on the role of the countries that participate in SAARC as observers.
