Chief Justice blames Atorney General, IGP and CID chief

The Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva reprimanded the Attorney General, the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Criminal Investigation Department and the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission for not ignoring the Supreme Court directive on former Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara.
The Supreme Court made this reprimand when a fundamental rights petition filed by Presidential Adviser Vasudewa Nanayakkara and Licensed Accountant Nihal Sri Amarasekara was considered. The petition was on not implementing law against Dr. Jayasundara who was ordered to pay Rs. 500,000 for causing a financial damage to the state.

The Chief Justice stated that the CID Director has to resign from the post since he failed to act in accordance with the Supreme Court directive. He further said that Attorney General, the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Criminal Investigation Department and the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission have committed a serious crime by not implementing Supreme Court order.

The petition was considered by a panel of judges comprised of Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, justices Ms. Shirani Thilakawardhana and Nimal Gamini Amarathunga. The Solicitor General appearing for the Attorney General stated that he would not appear for Dr. Jayasundara in this case.
