GMOA to protest about doctors killing

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) is to launch an islandwide protest over the shooting of a female doctor in Bandagiriya, Hambantota, GMOA spokesman Dr Upul Gunasekara said.

He said that the GMOA will be meeting today to decide on the protest campaign.

Dr. W.D.Lakshmi, 38 of the Central Dispensary at Bandagiriya was shot dead on Monday night as she was examining a patient.

A soldier attached to the Udawalawe camp is reported to have shot her. The soldier is reported to have an affair with the doctor earlier, hospital sources said.
