Security forces mounted heavy artillery and mortar attacks at LTTE positions leaving scores killed and as many injured including two LTTE leaders, at Muhamalai, Jaffna, today (Oct 16). Fighting ensued between troops and LTTE since 4a.m, according to Jaffna security sources.

Successive LTTE counter attacks were also thwarted by the military as troops claimed heavy damages to LTTE in the hours long fighting which lasted till noon. The slain LTTE leaders were identified as Kanyan and Isaiman, according to military. 3 soldiers have laid their lives and 9 others reported wounded during the confrontation, security sources said.
