Two suspected who were allegedly involved in the abduction and murder of six year old Varsha in Trincomalee were shot dead in a shoot out between the LTTE and the Police in the Kanniya area today, SP Vass Gunawardena said.

He said the suspects had claimed they had instructions from the LTTE to assassinate the Government Agent and Governor and had been provide a suicide jacket for this purpose. He said that when they were take to the site to recover the jacket the LTTE had fired at them killing both the suspects and injuring a SI and PC.

However earlier reports said that Varsha’s killers were linked to the TMVP.

Earlier two suspects involved in the killing died. One of them was shot dead while reportedly trying to escape while the other reported to have swallowed a cyanide capsule.

The two persons killed were the only two remaining suspects in custody.
