Chairman of the Hikkaduwa Urban Council, Vinnie Kariyawasam and another, found guilty of murder, were imposed death penalty by the Balapitiya High Court.

The other person is one Jayaratne Silva. They had been charged with the murder of a person by shooting him on or about May 19, 1995, at Thotagamuwa, Hikkaduwa. The trial concluded today and the death sentence was imposed by High Court Judge Amal Thilakeratne.
