A 26 year old youth has died in the first fatal accident on the Southern Expressway this morning. According to police the victim’s car had skidded off the road near the 21st post near Kalutara.

New luxury buses imported from China will be introduced to six routes in the Colombo city this month (February) as part of a pilot project to promote public transportation to passengers who use private vehicles, the Transport Ministry said today.
Electrical leak in temporary petrol tank reason behind van fire

The fire that broke out in a van on the Kalutara-Horana main road early this morning (January 26) which claimed the lives of four people including two children was caused by an electrical leak in the van’s unprotected petrol tank.
The Immigration and Emigration Department will set up a special unit to monitor the activities of some tourists to Sri Lanka because several of them come here for purposes other than tourism, a senior official said yesterday.
The police have set up a new unit to analyse the statistics regarding reported crimes around the country. The new police unit was declared open today (January 3) morning by the Inspector General of Police, N.K.Illangakoon.
