It is reliably learnt that a well known thug in Sri Lanka, Lal Peiris alias Kudu Lal, has requested for political asylum from the UK Home Office.

In order to fulfill the requirement of the Home Office to prove as to why living in one’s country was a threat to life, Kudu Lal had presented the list of underworld kingpins who were killed by the Sri Lanka Police during the clean up operation. He had also noted in his application that orders have been issued by his one time friend Minister Mervyn Silva to his supporters to assassinate him at the airport if he returned to the island as the Minister was now involved in earning millions through extortion and other rackets Kudu Lal was involved in.

Sources said that although Kudu Lal initially looked at the option of getting an investor visa in the UK, he had to cast the idea aside due to the inability to report the means he earned the amount of one million pounds required to receive the respective visa.

Meanwhile, a close confidant of Minister Silva told us that the Minister had made the necessary arrangements for Kudu Lal to leave the country initially by even taking him to the airport in his vehicle and sending him off through the VIP section in order to take charge of the various rackets and extortions carried out formerly by Lal.

It has also been revealed that Kudu Lal’s brother, one Neil Peiris, who had been sentenced to life in prison over a heroin case, is currently living in the UK after arriving in the country through the Netherlands and receiving asylum status. He is currently living with his family in Kingston, South London and is still receiving perks and privileges from the Kingston Municipality.

A Sri Lankan solicitor, who has experience in immigration and emigration laws said that Lal Peiris might in fact receive asylum due “to threats to his life in his country.” Lal Peiris is currently lobbying for the support of politicians from the Labor and Conservative parties to secure his asylum status.
